Suryakumar Yadav has joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp after missing the franchise’s last IPL 2024 match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Dharamshala.
Last week, Suryakumar welcomed a baby girl with his wife Devika Shetty, and to be with them, he missed the Mumbai Indians’ six-wicket win over the Punjab Kings on May 14. They won the thriller against PBKS under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah as Hardik Pandya was also recovering from an injury.
Injury trouble behind Suryakumar Yadav’s poor IPL 2026 season?
Suryakumar Yadav has been struggling badly in the ongoing IPL 2026, and one big reason behind his poor form is reportedly his ongoing wrist problem. The Mumbai Indians star has often been seen with heavy tape on his right wrist during matches and training sessions.

It is being said that the wrist injury has not been operated on yet, and he has been depending on medical treatment and painkillers to continue playing this season. Because of the wrist issue, Suryakumar is avoiding his famous 360-degree strokeplay, and it also affected his timing and freedom while playing attacking shots in the tournament.
This alleged injury has also forced the five-time IPL champions to use him as an impact player in several matches this season. So far, the Indian captain has managed only 195 runs in 11 matches at a poor average of 17.73 and a strike rate of 144.09 for MI.
Suryakumar Yadav returns to Mumbai Indians camp after short break
Meanwhile, Suryakumar confirmed his return to the Mumbai Indians camp through an Instagram post on Saturday, May 16. In his Instagram story, Suryakumar shared the picture of the practice pitch and ground staff doing their work at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The Mumbai star captioned the post simply “Routine” with loaded, which hints that he is ready to return to the IPL 2026 action. A Times of India journalist shared that Suryakumar should be available for selection for the Mumbai Indians’ next IPL 2026 clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 20 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
