Netflix Executive Explains Why WWE Chose Italy for Clash in Italy Premium Live Event

WWE isn’t bringing Clash in Italy to Turin just because it sounded like a cool international stop. Netflix had a major hand in making the show happen.

The next WWE Premium Live Event goes down May 31 from Inalpi Arena in Turin, Italy, and according to Netflix Vice President of Sports Gabe Spitzer, the event was strategically planned after WWE launched on Netflix in Italy earlier this year.

While speaking on The Main Event with Andrew Marchand, Spitzer explained that WWE and Netflix executives sat down at the start of 2026 to figure out which international markets could help both companies grow business together. Italy quickly became one of the priorities.

“When we sit down with them at the beginning of this year, whether it’s Nick Khan or Paul Levesque, their Chief Content Officer, it’s what are places that we can go around the world that’s gonna help grow WWE but also be beneficial to Netflix and this year, we knew, in Italy, we were launching in April and later this month in May, they’re gonna do one of their big PLEs, Premium Live Events in Turin so, it’s a way to push people to watch on Netflix but it’s a way to grow their business as well.”

That comment gives fans a pretty clear look behind the curtain. WWE’s international expansion is now directly tied to Netflix’s rollout strategy around the world. The company isn’t just booking random overseas stadium shows anymore — these events are now part of a much bigger streaming push.

Clash in Italy already has a loaded lineup attached to it. Cody Rhodes is set to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against GUNTHER, while Roman Reigns faces Jacob Fatu in a Tribal Combat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Rhea Ripley will defend the WWE Women’s Championship against Jade Cargill, Becky Lynch puts the Women’s Intercontinental Title on the line against Sol Ruca, and Brock Lesnar is scheduled to collide with Oba Femi.

Internationally, the event will stream on Netflix as part of WWE’s massive media rights deal with the platform. In the United States, the show airs on ESPN Unlimited. Netflix and WWE clearly see these overseas Premium Live Events as more than wrestling shows. They’re using them to drive subscriptions, grow audiences in new markets, and strengthen WWE’s global reach at the same time.

With Clash in Italy now serving as one of the first major examples of that strategy, it’ll be interesting to see what country WWE and Netflix target next for a major Premium Live Event.

What country do you think WWE should run its next international Premium Live Event in? Leave your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
