NFL insider Dianna Russini has been riding a serious emotional rollercoaster lately. One week she’s the subject of a massive media firestorm, and the next, she’s being hailed as a local hero. It’s been a whirlwind for the veteran reporter, to say the least, as she navigates a major career transition under the brightest of spotlights.
The drama kicked off when Page Sixpublished photos of Russini holding hands with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at a hotel in Arizona. The timing was sensitive, as the photos were taken just before the NFL’s annual league meeting. Following the leak, The Athletic launched an internal investigation into her trip. Rather than waiting for the formal review to conclude, Russini decided to walk away from the publication entirely, ending her tenure before her contract was officially up on June 30.
She didn’t hold back in her resignation letter, making it clear she was frustrated with how the situation was being handled. Russini wrote, “This media frenzy is hurtling forward without regard for the review process The Athletic is trying to complete. It continues to escalate, fueled by repeated leaks, and I have no interest in submitting to a public inquiry that has already caused far more damage than I am willing to accept.”
She further explained her departure by stating, “I do so not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career.”

Russini Races to the Rescue: A Tale of Courage at the Scene of a Crash
But while the sports world was busy gossiping about her personal life and career moves, Russini was busy saving lives. This past Wednesday in Wyckoff, New Jersey, a serious accident unfolded right in front of her vehicle. A Jeep flipped onto its side after being struck by a Honda Civic. Russini didn’t hesitate to jump into action, coordinating a rescue for the 73-year-old driver and his dog trapped inside the wreckage.
A source described the scene to Page Six, noting her quick thinking: “She ran out and had a tall man put her on top of the Jeep to open the door, and she and the other guy pulled the driver and his dog out of the Jeep.”
So far, Russini has stayed quiet about the heroic act. With the NFL Draft just around the corner, fans are waiting to see if she’ll return to the airwaves or continue keeping a low profile. One thing is certain: she’s proven she can handle a crisis both in the newsroom and on the street.
