NHL Rumors: Nikishin, Blues, Sabres, Hellebuyck, Stars, and Robertson

Teams showing interest in Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Alexander Nikishin

Darren Dreger: There are upwards of six teams that have shown interest in Carolina Hurricanes pending RFA defenseman Alexander Nikishin.

Nikishin’s contract asking price is a major factor.

St. Louis Blues GM on having four first-round picks

Jeremy Rutherford: St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong on having four first-round picks and the possibility of them trading up: “Everyone knows what we have, and if they want to engage St. Louis, that pick — 1, 2, 3, 4 — they know what we have and I would welcome the call.”

The Buffalo Sabres may move the No. 4 … Interest in Connor Hellebuyck

TSN: Pierre LeBrun said that Buffalo Sabres are looking to add, and that most teams don’t believe the Sabres will make the pick at No. 4. They’ve lost Bowen Byram and Alex Tuch.

“I believe they’ve had conversations with the New York Rangers about Vincent Trocheck. They’ve talked to the Winnipeg Jets about Connor Hellebuyck and with the Toronto Maple Leafs about Matthew Knies.”

It’s hard to say how serious the Sabres are about Hellebuyck. The Jets may like to get their hands on the No. 4 pick.

The Winnipeg Jets don’t havet to trade Hellebuyck this season. The Florida Panthers are interested, but they don’t want to trade Anton Lundell, and wouldn’t include him in the Brady Tkachuk deal. They Panthers don’t have a lot of assets left. The Carolina Hurricanes were another team that has had some interest in Hellebuyck.

Time is ticking for the Dallas Stars and Jason Robertson

TSN: Pierre LeBrun said Dallas Stars and Jason Robertson continue to talk. There was some speculation that talks were way off and that the Stars were only focused on trading Robertson. Have been told that, that is not true. The Stars are listening to teams calling, so they have to incase the don’t reach a deal. Then there is the offer sheet, that would have to be seven years, and not the preferred eight, which Robertson would like.

“No. 2, if you’re doing an offer sheet at seven years, you probably have to be in the $15 million range in order to get him. I’m not saying a team wouldn’t, but that’s a pretty big number.

And finally, the compensation, which would be four first-round picks in order to offer sheet Robertson. I’m not saying I wouldn’t do it, but I’m just saying you have to think hard about that.”

A team trading for Robertson seems to make more sense than the offer sheet.
