NJCAA Women’s Championship Underway In South Carolina

Sumter, SC – The 2026 NJCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship begins today, May 2nd, and will run through May 6th when a national champion will be crowned. Played at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, SC, players will compete in flighted draws with teams earning points towards a team total based on their players finish in each flighted draw.

Hillsborough are the reigning National Champions, earning first place finishes in singles flights No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6 as well as all three doubles flights. The Hawks totaled 13 points more than second place finishers Cowley (39 points) who were the reigning NJCAA National Champions.

Hillsborough enters the championship as the No. 1 ranked team in the April 16th ITA NJCAA Team Rankings followed closely by Tyler, Cowley, Collin, and St. Petersburg (FL). Hillsborough took home the team championship in 2025 and have continually been in the mix for the championship under the leadership of head coach Sarah Lytle.

Hillsborough current has three of the top four ranked singles players in the country and in total places five players in the Top 12 of the ITA Singles Rankings headed into these championships. In doubles, the Hawks have just as strong of a presence, having the No. 1 ranked team in the country as well as the No. 4 ranked doubles team as well.
