Blue Jays: Nolan Perry, Alexis Hernandez earn Northwest League’s Player of the Week honours
That’s a clean sweep 🧹
Congrats to Alexis Hernandez and Nolan Perry on being named the NWL Player and Pitcher of the Week!
At this point, you know who Perry is and what he’s done this season. Since joining the Canadians, he’s pitched 15 innings over three starts, giving up just one earned run for a 0.60 ERA and 1.86 FIP. He’s also struck out more than half the batters he’s faced at the level (50.9%), while posting a 9.1 BB%.
So far this season, the outfielder is slashing .292/.375/.511 with six home runs in 162 plate appearances for a 137 wRC+, with a 10.5 BB% and 21 K%. In May, the 23-year-old is slashing .329/.408/.671 with all six of his home runs and seven doubles in 87 plate appearances, good for a 180 wRC+.
This past week, Hernandez slashed .480/.517/1.040 with three home runs and five doubles in 30 plate appearances, giving him a 291 wRC+. This was well deserved accolade, and he’s starting to look like a prospect worth monitoring. Whenever he’s promoted to Double-A, it’ll be a big test for the 23-year-old.
It’s the second time this season that the Blue Jays’ have had a clean sweep of the NWL Player of the Week awards. Back in mid-April, Tucker Toman was named as the Player of the Week, while right-handed pitcher Daniel Guerra was named the Pitcher of the Week for the league.
Not only that, but Sean Keys was named as the Eastern League’s Player of the Week in the week of April 13-19th. This wasn’t Perry’s first Pitcher of the Week award this season, earning the Florida State League’s award in the same week.
Carter Cunningham won the first awarded Player of the Week award thanks to a terrific week from April 6-12th. The other Player of the Week winner went to Buffalo Bisons outfielder RJ Schreck, who won the International League’s Player of the Week award for the first full series in May.
