Whenever there is controversy in the pro wrestling industry, the NWA is never too far away. NWA has dealt with Jim Cornette allegedly making racist comments on commentary in 2019 and Father James Mitchell doing cocaine onscreen in 2023. NWA has had to apologize for things that aired. Now, NWA issues a statement about what their talent is producing off the air. NWA Owner Billy Corgan released an apology for a video that one of their Tag Team Champions, Odinson, recently made.
Odinson Makes Insensitive Comments on Instagram
Multiple reports indicate that NWA World Tag Team Champion Odinson made an offensive comment on Instagram. The Georgia native with a viking gimmick posts in-character videos daily to help further storylines.
Last week, it was reported that Odinson made offensive comments that could be considered “homophobic” in a now-deleted video. Luckily for the disgraced NWA star, there is no record of this video, and no reports have confirmed exactly what he said.
However, some X users who claim to have seen the original video state that Odinson made a comment about “gay cowboys.” Odinson teams with J.R. Kratos as The Immortals. They are currently embroiled in a feud with The Country Gentlemen’s AJ Cazana and KC Cazana. These two teams last clashed in March.
NWA Issues Statement for Alleged Homophobic Remarks from Odinson
Billy Corgan has had a whirlwind of a month. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman had a star-studded birthday event featuring wrestlers from multiple promotions. Now, he’s issuing apologies on behalf of his talent.
NWA issues a statement regarding Odinson’s post:
It is unknown if NWA will take any action against Odinson. Rumors are that The Country Gentlemen were in line to take the Titles off of The Immortals. So, even dropping the belts shouldn’t be seen as a punishment for Odinson.
Odinson Reacts to NWA’s Statement
As of now, Odinson hasn’t publicly apologized for any potentially hurtful comments. Since that video, he’s published more content on his social media, including videos about not breaking kayfabe, and another talking down The Country Gentlemen. This time, there were no potential homophobic slurs.
Within 24 hours of NWA’s statement about Odinson’s remarks, the Tag Champion shared the post to his story:
While he didn’t apologize, and the story will disappear, Odinson seemingly acknowledged his behavior. We will keep an eye on the situation, including more context on what Odinson said that caused such a stir.
