NWA Star Tricks Fans With Fake Retirement Before Revealing New Persona

After seemingly retiring, NWA star Trevor Murdoch shocked fans by appearing on NWA Powerrr with a new persona.

During the latest episode of the show, Murdoch appeared to take to the ring for one last time after retiring last month. He was then joined by Mike Knox, who brought a gift out for him. In it was a cape and crown, which Murdoch quickly put on.

As Knox and Kyle Davis knelt before him, Murdoch then crowned himself “King Trevor Murdoch I,” and said that a king “never retires.” From this point forward, it seems like Murdoch has an entirely new persona, which took the crowd and commentary by surprise. On social media, Murdoch mocked those for thinking he was retiring, and called himself the “one true king.”

Prior to this, Murdoch seemingly retired on the May 2 episode of NWA Powerrr, after being defeated by Pretty Boy Smooth. After the match, Murdoch gave an emotional speech announcing his retirement from wrestling and thanked the fans for their support.

“I’m not sure if I can do this anymore. I’ve been wrestling for 27 years, and I have seen guys that come in here, and they’re only here for a payday. They don’t give the fans what they deserve. I always told myself that if I ever got to that point, I wasn’t going to be that guy. I don’t want to embarrass myself, I don’t want to embarrass my family, I don’t want to embarrass Harley Race(wrestling legend and his trainer). So at this moment, I am announcing my retirement from pro wrestling,” the former WWE star said.

After announcing his retirement in 2018, Trevor Murdoch returned to the ring for NWA the following year and went on to become a two-time Worlds Heavyweight Champion. In his speech, the former WWE Tag Team Champion also thanked NWA President Billy Corgan for the opportunity and for extending his career for seven more years.
