Packers defensive coordiantor Jonathan Gannon has a clear vision for the 2026 defense.
Eventually getting Micah Parsons back on the field should level up Green Bay’s ability to dictate to opposing offenses, but savvy veterans such as linebacker Zaire Franklin and Xavier McKinney’s presences gives Gannon the chance to have his troops fly to the football.

Last season, Green Bay’s rival Chicago Bears sprinted to the postseason on the backs of a defense that led the league in takeways.
Gannon, in his first season calling the Packers’ defense, sees a similar path forward to the NFC North crown and is building his unit around taking the ball away.
“You’ve gotta be opportunistic,” new defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach Bobby Babich recently told reporters .“One of the things I tell the guys all the time is, we don’t need to chase plays, we need to put ourselves in position to make plays. And when that ball shows up you just better make sure that you’ve repetitioned that so much, … you visualized, you’ve trained it, you’ve done all of that.”
By instilling a meticulous, play-to-the-whistle mindset during the offseason, Green Bay’s new defensive coaching staff hopes to turn visualization into concrete results on the field.
If the secondary can execute this vision and consistently capitalize on their opportunities, the Packers’ defense could easily transform into the opportunistic powerhouse needed to conquer the NFC North.
