The Green Bay Packers could be the team to help wide receiver Chase Claypool realize his dream of playing in the NFL again.
Several outlets have reported that the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish star wideout is attempting a comeback in the league, with Green Bay giving him a shot.
Claypool is among the players in Green Bay’s rookie minicamp as a tryout.
It has been a while since the last time Claypool was seen in action on the field. His most recent stop was with the Miami Dolphins, with whom he played on Jann. 7, 2024.
He inked a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills in May of 2024, but was released before the start of that year’s NFL campaign. He suffered an injury during the training camp with the Bills, leading to a trip to the injured reserve before parting ways with Buffalo with an injury settlement.
On Friday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur spoke about Claypool, who entered the league in 2020 as a second-round pick (49th overall) by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
What Packers’ LaFleur said about Claypool
“He’s had great film out there. He’s been productive and he looks like he’s in great shape, and he’s big. We’ll see how it goes,” LaFleur said of Claypool, via Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com.
In 58 games played so far in his NFL career, Claypool has accumulated 2,261 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 175 receptions.
Claypool has some experience in the NFC North, as he was traded by the Steelers to the Chicago Bears in 2022. A year later, Chicago sent him to the Dolphins.
Green Bay hosted eight tryout players, which also included the younger brother of running back Josh Jacobs, Isaiah Jacobs.
