This could prove to be a turning point offseason for the Packers.
However, the past several months have been more defined by the players who Green Bay lost, or traded away, than the additions made by general manager Brian Gutekunst and Green Bay in recent months.
The moves of this year’s free agency period struggle to hold up to the standard of trading two draft picks for All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons or signing All-Pros Xavier McKinney and Josh Jacobs over the past two years.
That could prove problematic.
Packers’ criticized for offseason moves
Over at CBS Sports, veteran NFL reporter Tyler Sullivan argues that the Packers deserve only a “C-minus” for this offseason’s moves.
“It doesn’t feel like Green Bay got noticeably better this offseason,” Sullivan writes for CBS. “The Packers made moves along the defense, adding Hargrave, Franklin and Cisse, but none of those exactly move the needle. Meanwhile, they lost Quay Walker, who led the team in tackles last season, and Rashan Gary, who was second behind Micah Parsons in sacks.
“When you throw in the loss of defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley (hired as the Dolphins’ head coach), the defense could take a bit of a step back.”
On paper, there certainly seems to be a talent exodus from Green Bay, but how the Packers’ young players on the depth chart step up and perform will likely dictate just how lofty the ceiling his for this team in 2026.
