Pampas Power to Bonus Point Win over Yacare

Los Pampas remain in top spot of Super Rugby Americas (SRA) 2026. The Buenos Aires side powered to a bonus point 31-14 win over Yacare on Friday to underline themselves as titles contenders. Los Pampas had the better of the physical battle which saw them able to seize control as the contest unfolded.

The match was relatively close at the midway point; Los Pampas held a 19-11 lead at half-time. It was a three tries to one half with Yacare hanging in the match due to to late penalties in the half from fly half Joaquín Lamas.

Second-rower Marcelo Toledo scored first just before the close of the opening quarter. The try came from a  lineout to maul with Toledo combing with fellow forwards to muscle his way over.

Yacare hit-back with an impressive try. Slick passes from the Argentine duo of Juan Cruz Strada and Joaquín Lamas opened up a half-chance out wide for Arturo López. The Paraguayan capped Argentine then spun around to avoid a tackle from Bautista Farisé and score.

Farise was involved in the next try, only this time he provided the assist. With good ball inside the Yacare 22, Los Pampas went left with Farisé combining with Tobías Wade. The former Los Pumas 7’s player danced inside Arturo López and also avoided a tackle from Ramiro Amarilla to score. Given injuries, the name Tobias Wade may well be on Argentina’s roster for the 2026 July Internationals.

The final score of the first-half again saw Los Pampas scoring down the left. Also, on repeat, was the involvement of a long pass from Farisé. This time it was left winger, Jerónimo Ulloa who scored. The score put Los Pampas 19-5 up late int he half; however, there was time for two penalties from Joaquín Lamas to close the gap at half-time.

Joaquín Lamas pout his name on the scoresheet early in the second-half. His 46th minute penalty turned-out to be the final Yacare score of the evening. Rather than continuing the come-back, Yacare conceded a soft try after Juan Cruz Strada was caught on the floor after an up-and-under. Lucas Morseco pounced and put Juan Pablo Bernasconi away for a try.

Bernasconi’s try secured the bonus point for the home side. The team scored one final try, doing so with a quarter of the contest remaining. Quick hands saw winger Ignacio Díaz scoring in the right corner.

Attention now turns to week nine. Los Pampas will travel to Córdoba for el clasico argentino against Los Dogos next Friday. Yacare return to Asunción to prepare to face Selknam at the Estadio Héroes de Curupayty on Saturday, April 25.
