Paul Heyman is clearing the air after his Brock Lesnar comments exploded online — and he says one key detail was left out once the story started spreading everywhere.
After TMZ released footage of Heyman pushing back against Brock Lesnar retirement speculation, the clip quickly spread across the wrestling world. Many fans believed the comments were made right after WrestleMania 42, especially following Lesnar’s emotional moment inside Allegiant Stadium where he removed his gloves and boots — a move long tied to retirement in wrestling.
Later in the day, once the video had gone viral and multiple outlets picked up the story, Heyman took to social media to respond directly and point out what he says was missing from the conversation.
“I want to congratulate @TMZ for the magnificent exclusive news regarding my comments on @BrockLesnar’s retirement.”
Heyman then explained that the video wasn’t filmed after WrestleMania weekend, but instead weeks earlier in New York following a television appearance — something he believes changes how fans should view the situation.
“Unfortunately, what’s left out of their globally trending exclusive report is that the video was shot in NYC after my @fox5ny appearance two weeks ago… Context is EVERYTHING!”
He finished his message with a playful note directed at TMZ founder Harvey Levin and the outlet’s team.
“PS @HarveyLevinTMZ, I still love you and all other members of the Mark Itkin crew.”
The timing matters because many fans connected Heyman’s comments to the emotional WrestleMania 42 moment. After losing to Oba Femi, Brock Lesnar stayed in the ring as fans chanted “thank you Brock.” He then removed his gloves and boots and placed them in the center of the ring before sharing a hug with Heyman — a scene that felt like a goodbye to many watching live.
WWE still hasn’t confirmed whether Brock Lesnar is officially retired, which keeps the situation open as fans continue to debate what that WrestleMania moment really meant.
