The Philadelphia Phillies are playing the Chicago Cubs on Monday. Before the game, the Phillies announced a roster move.
“Prior to tonight’s game against the Chicago Cubs, the Phillies placed RHP Jonathan Bowlan on the 15-day injured list with a right groin strain. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, RHP Seth Johnson was recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley,” the team announced.
Bowlan, 29, spent his first three seasons at the big league level in Kansas City with the Royals. He only appeared in a total of three games in the first two of those seasons, however. In 2025, Bowlan turned in a 3.86 ERA across 34 outings with the Royals. He was traded to the Phillies this past offseason in the Matt Strahm deal.
The right-hander recorded a 3.86 ERA in seven outings before landing on the injured list. The Phillies are hopeful that he can return as soon as possible. With that being said, they will obviously be cautious as he recovers from his right groin strain.

Right-handed pitcher Seth Johnson was promoted to the big league club in a corresponding move. The 27-year-old has appeared in 11 total big league outings. Johnson has surrendered 15 earned runs in 15 innings on the mound.
He is a pitcher who has displayed promise in the minor leagues, though. Johnson has a career minor league ERA of 3.22. Through six appearances in 2026 at Triple-A, the right-handed hurler recorded a 3.00 ERA.
Johnson will try to fill the void of Bowlan’s injury absence. Meanwhile, injury updates on Jonathan Bowlan’s injury status will be provided as they are made available.

The Phillies entered Monday night’s game against the Cubs with a 7-8 record. They have endured an extremely inconsistent campaign. There has been no shortage of ups and downs.
Philadelphia entered the season with lofty expectations. The Phillies have been a consistent playoff contender in recent years. While they did not have a huge offseason, they were able to re-sign Kyle Schwarber and JT Realmuto.
It remains to be seen if Philadelphia can compete for their first World Series championship since the 2008 season. The potential is unquestionably present, but the ball club has endured postseason woes. Regardless, the Phillies will surely rebound from their inconsistent start to 2026.
At the moment, they are focused on defeating the Cubs at home.
