Poll Results: Why Commanders fans expect improvement in Washington 2026 NFL season

The results are in. Commanders fans are optimtistic about a return to prominence after a disappointing 5-12 campaign in 2025.

Does that mean we all expect a return to the NFC championship game? Probably not.

Our poll results indicate that Commanders optimism is appropriately measured, with a belief Washington will be better than last season’s 5-12 disaster without assuming they’re headed for a division crown.

That’s appropriate, even with all the work general manager Adam Peters did this offseason through free agency and the NFL draft. Front office personnel rarely get the kind of petty cash Peters had this offseason, so his actions say a bunch. He went younger and faster, mostly with players on the ascent (Hi, Odafe! Hi, Leo!) who will be around for some time.

Then Peters backed those moves up with a strong NFL draft highlighted by the Sonny Styles pick at No. 7 overall.

That’s why optimism pervades right now, though it should increase into the future.

As of this story’s publication we got 210 votes on how much better the Commanders would be. A total of 56% believed Washington would battle for the division. A smaller group (32%) believe the Commanders would improve by a few wins, putting them into the 7-9 win range. And a small number believe Washington will flip the script and win the NFC East.

Where do you stand? It’s not too late to make your voice heard. Say it loud in the poll or article comments below:
