Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods may end up looking a little different if they land in AEW.
As speculation keeps growing about the former New Day stars potentially joining Tony Khan’s company after WWE, details are now surfacing about the names both men would likely use outside WWE.
According to WreslteVotes on Fightful Select, Kofi is expected to keep using the Kofi name, while Xavier Woods would likely go back to the Austin Creed name he used before signing with WWE.
“Speaking of names, Kofi will be able to use Kofi as his name, while Xavier Woods will likely go by Austin Creed.”
The Austin Creed name has long been associated with Woods outside WWE and would instantly be familiar to fans who followed his pre-WWE career on the independent wrestling scene. At the same time, keeping the Kofi name would preserve one of the most recognizable identities WWE has built over the last decade through Kingston’s championship run and New Day success.
The name discussion comes while AEW interest in the duo continues growing behind the scenes. There is said to be strong support internally for bringing the former WWE tag team stars into the company once they officially become free agents. Several AEW wrestlers are also believed to be interested in working with the duo if they arrive.
“Fightful Select reported that there is a heavy push within AEW among talent to bring in Kofi and Austin Creed.”
“A number of AEW talent also have expressed interest in working with New Day, who will need to go by a new name.”
Kingston and Woods already have convention appearances lined up outside WWE, including GalaxyCon later this month, while additional appearances are expected to be announced soon.
Neither man has publicly confirmed their next wrestling destination yet, but fans are already paying close attention to every clue surrounding a possible AEW jump — especially now that potential ring names are beginning to emerge.
