Earlier today, the Rangers traded Adam Edstrom to Nashville for a 5th round pick and AHL forward Massimo Rizzo. Rizzo is a pending RFA that the Rangers have already stated they will not tender a qualifying offer. Rizzo was probably just a body to make the roster sizes work until free agency starts on July 1. The “prize” was the 5th round pick, #148.
Edstrom was the odd man out on the Rangers fourth line, having been injury prone for his few years on Broadway. With the influx of younger, more talented players at the end of last season, the writing was on the wall for the former 6th round pick.
Hopefully Edstrom stays healthy enough to stick in Nashville’s lineup. When healthy, he’s a solid fourth liner.
