Rhea Ripley’s reign as WWE Women’s Champion could soon take an unexpected turn, as a new report indicates that Jacy Jayne is being considered as her challenger for SummerSlam 2026.
The seeds for a potential Ripley vs. Jayne rivalry were planted shortly after WrestleMania 42, when Ripley captured the WWE Women’s Championship from Jade Cargill. In the weeks that followed, she found herself in the crosshairs of Fatal Influence, with Jayne emerging as one of the group’s primary threats.
The rivalry escalated on the April 24 episode of SmackDown when General Manager Nick Aldis made an impromptu championship match between Ripley and Jayne. Although Jayne pushed the champion to her limits, the bout ended in a disqualification victory for Ripley after Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx interfered. The match quickly devolved into a three-on-one attack, leaving the champion overwhelmed.
Despite the odds, Ripley repeatedly welcomed the challenge and refused to back down from Fatal Influence. The faction continued to exploit its numbers advantage, making life difficult for the champion at every turn.
The situation became even more chaotic when Jade Cargill re-entered the picture. Cargill joined forces with B-Fab and Michin to battle Fatal Influence, leading to a series of explosive multi-woman confrontations. With so many moving pieces involved, Ripley often found herself vulnerable to attacks from multiple directions.
Given that history, a return to a one-on-one feud between Ripley and Jayne appears to be a logical next step.
According to reports, WWE has internally discussed a WWE Women’s Championship match between Ripley and Jayne for SummerSlam 2026, set for August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. While the company has yet to officially announce the bout, the matchup has reportedly been pitched as WWE continues to finalize plans for its biggest event of the summer.
A title opportunity at SummerSlam 2026 would mark the most significant singles match of Jayne’s WWE career. Since arriving on SmackDown as part of Fatal Influence, she has steadily developed into one of the brand’s most promising villains. Stepping into the ring with Ripley on one of WWE’s biggest stages would further establish Jayne as a major player in the women’s division.
For now, the match remains only an internal proposal, and WWE’s creative plans could change before SummerSlam 2026. Of course, this will all depend on Rhea Ripley’s knee injury. It is said that she should be ready to go by SummerSlam 2026.
