The June 8 episode of WWE RAW took place at the Accor Arena in Paris, France. The special international broadcast featured several championship matches, including a showdown between two of the most respected luchadores in wrestling history.
Penta defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship against WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio in a match built on mutual respect. The title bout was made after Penta personally offered Rey the opportunity, wanting to test himself against one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. It was a rare championship match with no bad blood involved, as both men entered the contest focused on competition rather than conflict.
Penta came into the match riding one of the strongest runs of his WWE career. He won the Intercontinental Championship from Dominik Mysterio on the March 2, 2026 episode of RAW and has held the title for more than three months heading into Paris.
Rey Mysterio and Penta started this match in rapid fashion as they fired up the crowd in a hurry. The WWE Hall of Famer capped off their back-and-forth with a dive to the outside before the company cut to commercial break.
There was a championship advantage for Penta in this match, so they couldn’t spend the entire time outside the ring. Fans in Paris chanted “lucha libre” as they carried on. The two battled it out in the ring after that, as they each tried to score the big win.
Rey Mysterio was able to rally with a poisonrana and a 6-1-9 for a near fall. Then Penta got on his feet, and they started trading forearm shots. Then Penta was able to nail a Mexican Destroyer and get the win to retain his IC Title in Paris.
After the match, Ethan Page and Rusev jumped Penta and Rey Mysterio in the ring. Dragon Lee ran down for the save. He was outmatched, but Dragon Lee was able to hold his own for a bit. Then Ethan Page was able to take out Lee before Rusev continued his attack on Rey before he unmasked the legend. Only time will tell where this leads, but the story is far from finished.
Chad Gable ran down to clean house after that. He is no longer El Grande Americano, but he still has the luchadors’ back. The whole time, Penta held Rey Mysterio’s head to protect his face from the Paris crowd.
What’s your take on Penta’s reign as IC Champion at this point? When will he lose the title? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
