Rhea Ripley’s WWE Women’s Championship defense at Clash in Italy now has a much deeper meaning for her, as she’s dedicating the bout to her late grandmother.
Ripley is set to defend her title against Jade Cargill on May 31, after previously defeating Cargill for the championship at WrestleMania 42. Ahead of the match, Ripley took to Instagram and revealed that she is dedicating the bout to her late grandmother, who passed away in April 2023.
“I’ve always wanted to go to Italy but never had the opportunity. This weekend I finally get to live that dream at #ClashInItaly! My Nonna was one of the most important and strongest people in my life.”
Ripley then explained that going to Italy feels personal because it is where her grandparents grew up, making the trip feel like visiting a home she never got to experience before. She noted that the match is for her grandmother and that she hopes to make her proud.
“Going to the country where her and my Nonno grew up feels like I’m about to visit a home I’ve never had the pleasure to experience. “I miss you every day! This one’s for you! I hope I make you proud when you look down on me. ❤️🇮🇹”
With the WWE Women’s Championship on the line, Ripley already had plenty at stake against Jade Cargill. Now, the match carries an emotional meaning as she prepares to wrestle in Italy for the first time.
