India suffered a heartbreaking series loss against New Zealand that also broke their 12-year long defeat less run at home. Let’s look at Rohit and Virat Performance in Test cricket.
It was not like New Zealand made such huge scores in both the games, but Indian batters failed to read and perform as per conditions. Â
After a 46 all in Bengaluru, Indian team was bundled out for 156 in the first innings of the second test and lost the second straight game of the series. Â
With young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant performed decently in at least an innings. It was the seniors Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who let the team down, especially skipper Rohit Sharma. Â
How Rohit and Kohli’s struggles are costing India in Tests
Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has remained the pillars of Indian batting line-up for a long period of time, but their recent struggle with the bat majorly in red-ball format is shaking India’s batting order. Â
Captain Rohit Sharma, who plays as an opener, has failed to provide India a good start and also missed many opportunities to lead the team from the front. While Virat Kohli, known for his anchor and match winning partnerships play, has also been gazed out of touch. Â
Looking at their stats in 2024, Rohit Sharma has appeared in 19 innings in which he scored 559 runs at an ordinary average of 31.05, which is extremely low compared to his overall home test average of 53.31. Â
Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has only scored 245 runs in ten test innings in 2024, with just one half-century. Â

With another key series (Border-Gavaskar Trophy) beginning next month, India will need to win the last and final test match left in the series against New Zealand to regain confidence, which would only be possible if the seniors step up, fix the errors and play dominantly as they used to.  Â
