Team India has ended their long ICC trophy drought after 11 years. Ten days ago, Rohit Sharma and Co. lifted the T20 World Cup trophy after defeating South Africa in the T20 World Cup final. That was the last assignment for Rahul Dravid as the Indian coach. After that, he will not continue with the post, and some other candidate is all set to take the responsibility. After 10 days of T20 World Cup win, Captain Rohit Sharma penned a heartfelt note for Rahul Dravid on his social media handle.
Rahul Dravid Ends His Tenure:
Another era ended in the Indian Cricket. After serving the nation for a long as a player, Rahul Dravid came back as Team India’s coach in 2021 after Ravi Shastri’s exit. Since then, Team India has risen through rank. Under Dravid’s guidance, Team India played the WTC final, the ODI World Cup final, and lastly, the T20 World Cup final. In 2023, India won the Asia Cup under his guidance. And the most recent win in the T20 World Cup is known to everyone.
But After the World Cup ended, Rahul Dravid didn’t want to continue with the post and didn’t renew the contract. BCCI opted for another head coach for the team. Gautam Gambhir is all set to be the successor of Dravid as he is all set to be the Indian coach. The new coach is all set to take charge of the Sri Lanka tour which is scheduled at the end of this month.
Rohit Sharma’s Emotional Post for Rahul Dravid:
After Virat Kohli stepped down from the captaincy, Rohit Sharma held the helm and had Rahul Dravid with him. The coach-captain duo gave India immense success. After this T20 World Cup win, Rohit Sharma retired from the T20 format. Rahul Dravid also ended his term. After 10 days of the T20 World Cup win, Rohit Sharma penned down an emotional note for coach Rahul Dravid.
On his social media handle, Rohit wrote, “Dear Rahul bhai, I have been trying to find the right words to properly express my feelings on this but I’m not sure I ever will so here’s my attempt.”
Later he added, “Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely. You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too.”
Lastly, he added, “This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend.”
