The April 27 episode of WWE RAW went down at the Sames Auto Arena in Laredo, Texas. Roman Reigns is still World Heavyweight Champion, but he already has a family member stepping up to face him.
Jacob Fatu made his intentions very clear last week on RAW. He wants a shot at Reigns’ championship, and he’s not about to back down from the OTC.
This week on RAW, Roman Reigns was in the house to answer Jacob Fatu’s challenge. This brought a lot of attention to the Samoan Werewolf as he takes his shot at the main event scene.
Everything built toward the main event segment of this week’s show. Roman Reignsmade his way to the ring, with fans wondering what he would say about his family member’s challenge. He had a decision to make about his match in a week from Saturday at Backlash.
Roman Reigns cut his promo about how WWE created the title he’s holding in spite of him, but it didn’t work. He said the title doesn’t make the man, the man makes the title. He said that’s exactly what he did. He made the title relevant. Now we can respect the title.
Just as Roman Reigns had fans in Laredo, Texas, acknowledge him, Jacob Fatu made his way out. Fatu said that Reigns gave him a week, but he didn’t need that. He knew what he wanted. He doesn’t want the title; he needs it.
Jacob Fatu said that nobody called him during his downtime except for Solo Sikoa. Then Roman Reigns reminded Fatu who runs WWE. Roman Reigns said it would be nepotism if he gave Jacob Fatu a match, and then Fatu attacked him.
Roman Reigns was helpless to the attack. Jacob Fatu latched on his death grip and brought Roman Reigns to the mat. Then Fatu announced that he will take everything from Roman before he grabbed the World Heavyweight Championship and he threw it down. This week’s RAW ended with Jacob Fatu walking off and Roman Reigns holding his neck. Then Roman announced that their match at Backlash is on.
WWE Backlash is set for Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. We will have to see what else WWE adds to the card.
