Ronda Rousey has high praise for Gina Carano following their quick encounter in the main event of MVP MMA 1.
Rousey and Carano shared the cage inside the Intuit Dome in Inglewood this past Saturday. For many, the path to victory for “Rowdy” was simple. Most expected Rousey to take Carano down and submit her via armbar, which is exactly what transpired. Rousey didn’t wait long, as she secured the submission finish in just 17 seconds.
After the fight, Rousey spoke to media members during the MVP MMA 1 post-fight press conference. She was quite complimentary of Carano, and said that this was the perfect way to cap off her return fight (via MMAFighting).
“Gina is the person who brought me into MMA,” Rousey said. “She’s the only person who could have brought me back into MMA. She’s my f*cking hero. You brought me back home when nobody else could. You showed me where my home was when nobody else could.
“You changed my world and we changed the world and I will never, ever forget, and I will never be able to pay you back enough. I’m so glad we finally got to share this moment.”
Rousey doesn’t plan on continuing to compete in MMA. She has instead expressed her desire to have more children. MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian has said that even if Rousey is truly done fighting, she will have a place in his promotion behind the scenes.
If Rousey sticks to her word, she ends his pro MMA career with a record of 13-2. “Rowdy” secured 10 of those victories via submission and three by way of knockout. She never went the distance in a prizefight.
