Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals is one of the most electric young players in the majors. Witt Jr. is a complete player at shortstop. The two-time Gold Glove Award winner is 15th in the league with a .294 batting average and tied for 18th in OPS at .833.
The 26-year-old is second in the majors with 28 stolen bases and is top 10 among shortstops with 10 home runs. The two-time Silver Slugger Award winner has a 4.3 WAR, trailing only Pete Crow-Armstrong’s 5.0 for the Chicago Cubs and the league lead. Crow-Armstrong is the reigning National League Player of the Week, and although Witt Jr. won American League Player of the Week earlier this season (May 4-10), he is laying claim to another type of weekly baseball recap.

On Thursday, Major League Baseball announced on social media that the show “This Week in Baseball” is back. In a post on X, MLB shared a video clip showing a four-panel box featuring current and former baseball stars. Shown alongside Witt are Jackson Holliday of the Baltimore Orioles, Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. and seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens.
The players introduce themselves in the clip. Then, in unison, they say, “This Week in Baseball is back … how about that?” The clip ends with the name of the show and the MLB batter silhouette logo. The show is a modernized digital series re-creating the same show that debuted in 1977. The current version is hosted by Kait Maniscalco.
“Jackson Holliday and Ken Griffey Jr. are in the know,” MLB wrote on X. “Bobby Witt Jr. and Roger Clemens have the scoop too. That music means ‘This Week in Baseball’ is back ⚾️ A new episode with @askkaitt drops only on X, Friday at noon!”
