Royce Keys disappeared from WWE TV after his Royal Rumble debut—but according to him, he never actually went anywhere.
After making his WWE debut at the Royal Rumble earlier this year, Keys was nowhere to be seen on television, leaving many wondering what happened next. That changed on the April 10, 2026 episode of SmackDown, when he returned in dominant fashion and quickly took out Berto in a squash match.
With questions still surrounding that gap, Keys finally addressed the situation during an interview with Adrian Hernandez on April 18, 2026 — and made it clear he wasn’t sitting at home waiting for a call. He first responded to the speculation about his absence and the timeline between his debut and SmackDown return.
“So here’s the thing about it—I was doing stuff people don’t even know about. I was grinding, I was working.”
Keys then revealed what his schedule actually looked like after the Royal Rumble, revealing he was already working both brands before officially showing up on TV.
“We had the Royal Rumble in Saudi, and then the next TV was Monday Night Raw in Philly—I was working. I was doing both shows—SmackDown and Raw—twice a week up until my debut.”
According to Keys, the time away from television wasn’t inactivity — it was preparation. He stated that patience played a major role, but the workload never stopped behind the scenes. He closed by making it clear that everything he was doing off-camera was building toward that moment fans finally saw on SmackDown.
“Look, we had to learn patience. You know, patience is a virtue—but there was no sitting around. I was grinding. It was a grind I had to get used to to prepare me for that debut.”
Since returning, Keys hasn’t just been back — he’s already stacking momentum. On the latest episode of SmackDown, he went even further by winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, adding a major statement victory to his growing resume.
Now that Royce Keys is officially on SmackDown and already delivering results, this paints a clear picture — the groundwork was being laid long before he showed up on TV, and now it’s paying off in a big way.
What do you think—did WWE handle Royce Keys’ debut timing the right way, or should he have been on TV much sooner? Let me know your thoughts.
