Sacramento’s Best Take the Spotlight at City 4-Ball Championships

On March 29, 2026, some of Sacramento’s top amateur golfers gathered at Bing Maloney Golf Course for one of the city’s most anticipated local competitions, the 73rd City Men’s 4-Ball Championship and the 4th City Men’s Senior 4-Ball Championship.

With a mix of competitive spirit, local pride, and springtime conditions, the tournament once again highlighted the depth of talent in Sacramento’s golf community.

A Championship Tradition Continues

Hosted by the Sacramento Golf Council, the City 4-Ball Championship remains a staple of the region’s amateur golf calendar. Played under USGA rules, the event features a two-player team format, where each golfer plays their own ball and the best score between the pair counts on each hole.

The tournament is contested at Bing Maloney, a longtime hub for competitive and recreational golf in the area, known for hosting dozens of local events annually.

Sloane and Travis Capture Men’s Title

In the Men’s division, Ryan Sloane and Taylor Travis emerged as champions, defeating the team of Dean Prince and John Jaramillo in Sunday’s final match.

Their victory marks a standout performance in a competitive field, showcasing consistency and teamwork throughout the multi-round format. The duo navigated both stroke-play qualifying and match play rounds to claim the title, a format that tests both endurance and head-to-head competitiveness.

Senior Division Sees Niger and Bunce Prevail

In the Senior Championship, Bob Niger and Bill Bunce secured the title over Kellen Arceo and Greg Auer.

The senior event, open to players aged 55 and older with a GHIN index of 9.4 or less, continues to grow as a competitive platform for experienced golfers. The tournament also carries significance as an NCGA points event, adding another layer of competition for participants.

Community Support and Leadership

The tournament was chaired by Tom O’Neil, whose leadership helped organize another successful edition of the event. Sponsorship from Eskaton Village Carmichael supported the Senior Championship, reinforcing the strong connection between local organizations and Sacramento golf.

Participation requirements ensured a high level of play, with the Men’s Championship open to players with a GHIN of 5.0 and below, attracting some of the region’s most skilled amateurs.

Celebrating Sacramento Golf

Events like the City 4-Ball Championships are more than just competitions, they’re a celebration of Sacramento’s golf culture. From rising players to seasoned veterans, the tournament brings together the community in a setting that blends tradition, competition, and camaraderie.

As another chapter closes at Bing Maloney, the 2026 champions add their names to a growing legacy, one that continues to define amateur golf in Sacramento.
