Sami Zayn finally achieved his lifelong dream at WWE Night of Champions, and he knows exactly how big this moment was.
Zayn walked out of WWE Night of Champions as the new Undisputed WWE Champion after beating Cody Rhodes and GUNTHER in a Triple Threat Match at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was the kind of win fans have been waiting years to see, and Sami made sure everyone understood what it meant to him.
The match was pure chaos from start to finish. Cody Rhodes came in as champion, GUNTHER was looking to prove he had been robbed, and Sami Zayn had the crowd firmly behind him as he chased the biggest prize of his career.
There were broken announce tables, near falls, sleeper holds, Helluva Kicks, and plenty of drama before the finish finally came. Cody hit a double Crossroads on GUNTHER, but Sami quickly rolled Cody up and got the three count to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
After the match, Sami Zayn appeared on the Night of Champions post-show and reacted to finally winning the title. He admitted the road had not been easy, especially after people said he would never reach this level.
“Some bad and good — and lately, some bad. A lot of folks said I would never win the WWE Championship!”
Sami then stood in front of the crowd and made it clear how much it meant to win the title in that moment. Zayn was clearly overwhelmed as he tried to process everything. Even Byron Saxton could see that Sami was struggling to find the right words.
“But I stand here tonight in front of my people — the WWE Champion! It is hard to believe. Oh my God. Byron… you know I’m not usually at a loss for words, but I…”
Then Sami snapped into the moment and fired back at anyone who ever questioned whether he deserved to be WWE Champion. He then pointed to his long career and reminded everyone that this title win was not some overnight success story. He made it clear that nobody can ever take this moment away from him.
“You know what? You’re DAMN RIGHT I deserve it! Twenty-plus years in the game at the highest level — never got the recognition. Ten-plus years chasing this title — never got the recognition. I don’t care what happens to me tomorrow, next week, next month, next year. Forever, I will be Sami Zayn — W-W-E Champion!”
This was not just another title change. Sami Zayn spent more than two decades getting to this point, and Night of Champions gave him the kind of career-defining moment fans will remember for a long time.
Now WWE has a brand-new Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes no longer has the title, and GUNTHER is still left chasing the championship he believes should have been his. Sami may have finally reached the top, but the road ahead could get even more difficult from here.
