Sandbox Pirate RPG Dawn of Piracy: Caribbean Tides Sets

Dawn of Piracy: Caribbean Tides has some serious pirate-themed Mount & Blade vibes, and you’ll be able to play it on Steam Early Access in 2026.

With a full vision that includes a 13-island sandbox set in the Caribbean of the 17th century, Dawn of Piracy “is a sandbox pirate RPG inspired by the spirit of games like the classic Sea Dogs.” There’s open-ended exploration, naval warfare, trade, piracy, and more, but it’s played at one’s own pace and with no specific goals.

This doesn’t mean the game is devoid of handcrafted content. In fact, the official website’s notable knowledge base already introduces a colourful cast of characters, including two different (male and female) leads: Henry Clarke and Abigail Van Den Berg. “Meet characters throughout the Caribbean and choose your allegiances as you forge alliances and foster rivalries.”

With the freedom to choose your quests and activities, Dawn of Piracy’s RPG design aims to give you a genuine sense of control over your own story. There’s a main story that will evolve during the early access period (only Act 1 will be available when it releases), but “The Caribbean does not stand still, nor should you.”

The full list of announced content and features also includes the following:

  • Sail the vast seas trade between rival ports, hunt enemy vessels as a privateer, raid shipping lanes as a pirate and carve your own reputation in a world shaped by ambition and power.
  • Navigate between islands, contested waters, and rival powers in a Caribbean filled with competing empires.
  • Engage in dynamic tactical naval combat where varying factors like your positioning, firepower, and preparation can determine your fate as you master the winds, unleash broadsides, cripple enemy vessels, and take the fight to their decks.
  • Varying weather conditions and changing environments are a big influence on the outcomes of sea encounters.
  • Enemy ships aren’t just generic obstacles , as they can be disabled, boarded, and claimed as prizes if you’re prepared to take the risk.
  • Ports are more than safe harbours and aren’t just places to resupply.
  • These dynamic places are where you can stumble upon various characters, trade goods, expand your knowledge and sometimes where you may walk into danger.
  • Forge relationships, discover quests, and decide how you want to be known throughout the Caribbean, as you explore different cultures, settlements, coastal villages, hidden caves, and fortified strongholds.
  • As you progress, you’ll upgrade your ship as you go through six classes of sea vessels, improve your skills, and gradually expand your influence across the seas.
  • Different ship classes handle and fight differently. Pick your ship from lighter, faster vessels to heavier warships built for sustained engagements and dominance.

Dawn of Piracy: Caribbean Tides will only disembark on Steam when it launches this year, with its early access price being lower than the full release’s. You can wishlist it now right here. You can also join the official Discord channel for more information.
