Samson continued his stellar form with the bat and hit his second consecutive ton in the shortest format. The 29-year-old, who has been in and out of the Indian team owing to his mixed performances, is finally coming to his own under new coach Gautam Gambhir.
Following his century knock, Samson revealed what India T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav had told him that let him play his game freely.
“When I was playing Duleep Trophy, in the second match, Surya was playing for the other team and during the match itself, he told be Chetta, ‘agla 7 match tera hai’, (you are going to play next 7 matches), you are going to open the innings in the next 7 games. Whatever happens, I will fully back you,” Samson told Jio Cinema after the match.

Samson hit an explosive knock of 107 off just 50 balls and became the joint-seventh fastest Indian to reach the landmark of 7000 runs in T20Is. His innings comprised 7 fours and 10 monstrous sixes which propelled India to 202 for 8 in 20 overs.
In reply, the Proteas could only manage 141 runs with spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi spinning their web and finishing with three scalps each.

The second and the decisive T20I is slated to take take place at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on November 10.
