Adrien Rabiot recently received a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia and put it aside to focus on the last few matches of the season with Milan and the World Cup. The midfielder isn’t in a hurry to transfer again, but the interest could lead to a new contract with his present side, Calciomercato reports.
The Frenchman joined very late last summer after a tumultuous exit from Olympique Marseille. He was put on sale despite being a linchpin because of a locker room fight with Jonathan Rowe. The Rossoneri took advantage of his relationship with Massimiliano Allegri and signed him for favorable terms, paying a €7M fee and handing him €9.2M gross wages. His recent suitors proposed to triple that figure.
Rabiot inked a deal with Milan until 2028, with an option. He has been instrumental to their success, scoring 6 goals and logging 4 assists in 28 appearances, staying healthy for the most part.
The midfielder aims to stay at San Siro, preferably under the same manager, and resume playing in the UEFA Champions League. The hierarchy has more pressing matters to handle for the time being, but they may try to further lock him down in the next few weeks.
Our Take on Milan and Rabiot
Saudi Arabia isn’t an alluring destination at the moment because of the geopolitical situation, but that doesn’t stop agents and intermediaries from dangling it as a threat. They onboarded him for relatively cheap thanks to a chaotic situation, but they might have to rectify that at some point. It’s quite telling that a few of their stars are making it known one way or the other that they are against a coaching change.
