Sean Mannion gets ‘evil genius’ praise from star O-Lineman

Though he doesn’t even have a decade of football at any level under his belt just yet, when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles, Jordan Mailata has rapidly become one of the go-to voices around the team for anything from reactions to rumors to a passionate defense of the Tush Push.

So naturally, after having a few days with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion running the show, Eagles reporters sought out Mailata to see what he thought about the new offense. Needless to say, Mailata didn’t disappoint, giving the young playcaller a few new nicknames that fans have already been running wild with online.

“Sean [Mannion] is an evil genius. The guy knows ball. If I were to lock the three smartest people in the facility in one room, Sean would be there, and I think Sean will just be himself. It would just be Sean,” Mailata declared.

“He’s a wizard. And I’m super excited, as the year goes on, we get to display what is in the beautiful mind of his.”

Evil genius? Wizard? The smartest man in the Jefferson Health Training Complex? Goodness gracious, Mailata is really raising the floor on expectations for Mannion, who has never called plays at any point in his coaching career to this point.

A former third-round pick by the St. Louis Rams, who was actually teammates with Nick Foles if you can believe it, Mannion has only been coaching for two years since being a member of the Seattle Seahawks as a reserve quarterback as recently as 2023. And yet, in addition to maybe being a genius, Mannion has a resume most young coaches could only dream of, from playing under Sean McVay and Kevin O’Connell to coaching with Matt LeFleur as a member of the Green Bay Packers from 2024-25. If Mailata is correct, the Eagles are very well positioned to succeed in 2026, even if he could be a popular head coaching candidate as soon as 2027.
