Seattle sale process not as active as Broncos, Commanders

The Seattle Seahawks sale process is drawing less activity than recent NFL franchise sales involving the Denver Broncos and Washington Commanders, according to a report from ESPN’s Seth Wickersham.

Multiple league sources indicated that interest surrounding a potential Seahawks sale has not reached the same level of intensity seen in previous high-profile transactions.

“It’s soft,” a team owner said of the market for the Seahawks.

“There isn’t as much action as there was with Denver and Washington,” another executive said, referencing the Broncos’ 2022 sale and the Commanders’ 2023 transaction.

Wickersham reported that while the situation remains fluid, there is growing skepticism among NFL owners and executives about whether Seattle’s eventual sale price will match earlier projections. Initial speculation suggested the franchise could command as much as $11 billion, but league sources now believe the final number may fall slightly above $9 billion.

Even at that level, the Seahawks would still set a record for the highest sale price in NFL history.

A league spokesperson declined to comment on the process. A representative for the Paul Allen estate, which controls the team, said there was “no news to share about the sale process,” while a Seahawks spokesperson deferred to that statement.

Seahawks sale pace contrasts with soaring NFL franchise valuations

The tempered outlook stands in contrast to the surge in franchise valuations across professional sports in recent years. In 2022, a group led by Rob Walton purchased the Broncos for $4.65 billion, setting a new benchmark at the time. That figure was surpassed in 2023 when a group led by Josh Harris acquired the Commanders for $6.05 billion.

More recently, valuations have continued to climb. A minority stake in the Miami Dolphins was sold at a franchise valuation of $12.5 billion, underscoring the rapid growth in the market.

Despite that trend, the Seahawks’ situation appears to be unfolding differently. While the franchise remains one of the league’s more stable organizations, factors such as ownership structure, timing and broader market conditions may be influencing buyer urgency.

As discussions continue, the Seahawks’ eventual sale is still expected to command a historic price, even if the level of competition does not mirror the frenzied bidding seen with Denver and Washington.
