This past weekend, Iyo Sky married new WWE Superstar NARAKU. As we first reported months ago, the former EVIL was in negotiations with WWE. The newlyweds had an on-and-off relationship for years, with many even wondering if they were still together. However, the Japanese legends’ union is stronger than ever, as NARAKU and Iyo Sky say, “I do.” With tons to celebrate, The Genius of the Sky revealed the role WWE played in Iyo Sky’s marriage.
Iyo Sky Marries NARAKU
At a time when WWE released Kairi Sane and Asuka seemingly retired, another Damage CTRL member has returned to Japan. Iyo Sky and NAKARU tied the knot, breaking the news first to media outlets in their homeland.
The former New Japan Pro Wrestling power couple made their relationship public on Jounetsu Tairiku, a docuseries that follows athletes. During the show, the couple even confirmed they recently had a wedding ceremony.
Their marriage comes on the heels of EVIL making his NXT debut as NAKARU. Now that Iyo Sky’s marriage is public, she discussed the role of EVIL coming to WWE had on their relationship.
Iyo Sky’s Statement on Her Marriage to NARAKU
Takaaki Watanabe and Masami Odate endured a long-term relationship for years. While EVIL was solidifying the NEVER Openweight Championship in Japan, Iyo Sky became one of the top WWE Women’s Champions in America. Now, the two are happily married in America.
In a joint statement, Iyo Sky and NARAKU professed their commitment to one another in front of the entire WWE Universe:
“We each began our paths in professional wrestling in Japan and looked up at different skies, but from the very beginning, we shared the same dream of challenging ourselves on the same stage called WWE across the ocean. We feel a deep bond and joy in now being able to stand together as both companions and peers.
As husband and wife, we will continue supporting each other in our daily lives. And as WWE ‘Superstars,’ while sharing the glory and hardships of our individual battles, we will continue striving to elevate one another and push ourselves even further.
We will never forget the gratitude we feel toward all the fans and everyone involved who have supported and guided us until now, and we intend to keep moving forward together toward even greater heights.
We are still inexperienced as a couple, but we sincerely ask for your continued guidance and support in the future as well.”
With opposite career trajectories, marriage never seemed in the cards for Watanabee and Odate. Things changed when NARAKU arrived on the scene at NXT.
NARAKU Coming to WWE Influences Iyo Sky’s Marriage
After the reveal of Iyo Sky’s marriage, the RhIYO member continued the media rounds. Iyo Sky and NARAKU had a photo shoot with Model Press that broke the internet.
In this follow-up, the former Women’s Champion revealed the role WWE played in Iyo Sky’s marriage coming to be:
“Until now, we were both in different rings, and we were both independent as wrestlers and superstars, so we didn’t think it was necessary to reveal our private lives.
Now that we’re both members of WWE, and are colleagues in the ring, or rather, in the same company, I thought it would be great if everyone could find out that we’ve become husband and wife.”
According to Iyo Sky, it only made sense to go public with NARAKU since they are going to be colleagues. That way, they can do red carpet events together like Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins, Chelsea Green and Matt Cardona, or Bianca Belair and Montez Ford.
We wish Iyo Sky and NARAKU much happiness. The 39-year-old NARAKU shared with media outlets that he was excited about this next chapter in the United States. While he’s a wily veteran, the New Japan standout asked for some time on the NXT roster to get used to the American style. We should expect NARAKU on the main roster with Iyo Sky in no time.
