In the midst of the Transfer Portal free agent market bonanza, your Georgetown Hoyas lost a promising prospect as Alex Constanza, a 6’8” 4-star recruit has decommitted. Constanza, formerly ranked No. 16 by On3/Rivals, was once considered the program’s highest-ranked recruit in nearly two decades. Only Greg Monroe (2008) rated higher in the modern recruiting era.
Constanza’s size and pedigree were incredibly promising and a strong sign for Ed Cooley’s staff. While reports on Constanza have simmered, questions still arise for Cooley as yet another roster spot remains open.
At the time, the 6-foot-8 guard/forward from SPIRE Academy (OH) selected the Hoyas after visiting other programs. He chose the Hoyas over a long list of high-major programs. He reportedly took official visits to NC State, Kansas, Illinois, Syracuse, and Miami. Other schools like Kentucky, Florida, and Florida State were also heavily involved in his recruitment.
“I chose Georgetown because it felt like home. The coaching staff believes in me,” Constanza told Rivals. That trust in Coach Cooley was built over time. “Coach Cooley kept it real from day one,” Constanza explained. “I feel like the connection was natural and the opportunity to make an impact right away really stood out.”
Last summer, Constanza told Jamie Shaw that Cooley is “building a good culture over there, a winning culture,” and that the staff felt his “game fits in perfect with their system.”
Has something changed? Was there a better offer?
Is a pending impact transfer expected to eat major wing minutes? Hoya fans can only hope.
