Seth Rollins did not hold back when CM Punk came up during his conversation with Prince St. Pizza.
Rollins was talking about his Money in the Bank cash-in and how he targeted Punk after Punk defeated Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship. Rollins explained that he wanted to ruin Punk’s moment, then made it very clear that his issues with Punk go much deeper than one title match. Rollins said there is a long history between them, and he made it clear that the two simply do not get along.
“I don’t like him. A lot of people love him. He and I don’t get along. We don’t see eye to eye. It’s a long history there.”
Rollins was then asked if he has any longtime rivals. He admitted he does, but said he does not usually consider himself someone who hangs on to grudges. Punk, however, is different.
“I’m not a grudge holder really. I wouldn’t consider myself. He’s an exception to the rule.”
When the conversation turned to what exactly rubs Rollins the wrong way about Punk, he was asked if Punk is a phony. Rollins did not dodge the question.
“I would say so.”
Rollins then explained why Punk is such a polarizing figure. He said Punk has fans who believe everything he says, but Rollins sees things differently because of his own personal history with him.
“He’s an interesting cat because if you love him, a lot of fans have seen Punk out there. You believe and hang on every single word that he says, right? But if you know the guy like I do, right, you could see through it. I see through all of it.”
Rollins also acknowledged that Punk would probably say the same thing about him, but he still gave Punk credit for remaining relevant in wrestling for more than two decades.
“Credit to him. I mean, he’s, I’ll give him his due in the sense that he’s been a relevant figure in our industry for over 20 years.”
Rollins said Punk was once someone he looked up to when he was trying to break into the wrestling business, but meeting him changed that view.
“He was a guy that I looked up to when I was trying to get in the business and you know, they say never meet your heroes, right? He’s a prime example of that.”
Rollins closed that part of the discussion by saying the bad blood between them would not be easy to fix.
“I mean, there’s certainly some bad blood there. I think it would be, um, it would be a tough, tough relationship to repair.”
The tension between Rollins and Punk has been one of WWE’s most personal rivalries, and Rollins made it clear during this conversation that his issues with Punk are not just for show. Whether that makes their next clash even bigger remains to be seen.
