Shawn Michaels Says Seeing Undertaker Work Lucha Style Outside WWE Feels “Ironic”

Shawn Michaels has seen The Undertaker do just about everything in wrestling, but even he admits that seeing him work in new environments still feels strange.

While speaking to Adrian Hernandez on Unlikely to promote his upcoming documentary, Michaels was asked about watching Undertaker step into new roles after decades of being one of WWE’s most serious and intimidating figures. The conversation shifted to seeing Undertaker around different styles and talent, including faster-paced lucha-style settings that feel very different from his WWE days.

Michaels laughed about the contrast and admitted it still feels surreal seeing someone so closely tied to one style now surrounded by completely different influences. At the same time, he made it clear that Undertaker has handled the transition well and continues to thrive.

“No no. Again, we joke about that quite a bit of course, you know, here is this unbelievably stoic figure in his WWE career. With Mr. Iguana. And yeah, and he’s out there with the luchadors and everything else going 100 miles an hour and stuff. But it again, so poetic and he’s doing a fantastic job. And that’s no surprise. He’s again, he’s the man in so many ways. He’s incredibly bright and of course, once he started coming around the Performance Center and jumping into LFG, much like myself, that love, that itch comes back and it makes you want to be able to give back.

So, he’s, you know, no surprise doing a fantastic job with AAA. But no, it is sort of ironic that, you know, there of all people, the man who was the Undertaker out there, having the lucha libre style being his trademark going forward in his career. It’s amazing.”

For longtime fans, the idea of The Undertaker mixing into faster-paced wrestling settings is something that once would have sounded impossible. Still, Michaels’ reaction shows that even legends evolve once they find new ways to stay connected to the business.

Seeing names like Undertaker continue working in different roles proves that the passion for wrestling doesn’t really go away—it just changes shape over time.

Do you think Undertaker adapting to new wrestling environments makes his legacy even stronger, or should legends stick to what made them famous? Let us know what you think and drop your feedback below.
