Sheamus Nearly Caused A Riot With Controversial WWE RAW Attire

Sheamus says he and Cesaro nearly caused a riot with their controversial attire at WWE RAW.

During his recent appearance on The Late Run podcast, former WWE Champion Sheamus recalled nearly causing a riot during the November 6, 2017, episode of RAW at Manchester, England. They won the RAW Tag Team Championship from Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose at the event, but it was what they did before the match that had the fans fuming.

Sheamus and Cesaro trolled the fans in Manchester by wearing the jersey and shorts of Manchester United FC’s rival Liverpool FC. The former WWE Champion recalled convincing Vince McMahon to let them do it, and the subsequent crowd reaction.

“We did a RAW, me and Cesaro, we were wrestling Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose for the titles. I was thinking to myself, ‘We’re in Manchester,’ and I was like, ‘We gotta wind them up,’” Sheamus began. “So I had this idea to get Liverpool kits, and we had the kilts and the jackets. I had the mohawk at the time.

“So I went out and got them to get the kits. Cesaro was a little bit on the fence about it in the beginning, but I was like, ‘It’s going to be great,’” Sheamus continued. “Then I had to go to Vince and basically tell Vince, ‘Hey, this is what we want to do,’ and he was like, ‘Why would you want to do that?’ I was like, ‘Just trust me. Just let us do this,’ and he was like, ‘You’re Irish. Why are you wearing an English football jersey?’”

Fans were swinging at Sheamus and Cesaro

“So he didn’t understand, but I was like, ‘Look, trust me on this. It’s gonna be good.’ But at the end of it, when we took off the jackets, we actually won the titles, people were throwing bottles at us,” Sheamus went on. “I was going up the [ramp], people were swinging, one lad was swinging like when we win the titles, and going up close, somebody swung at me trying to take my head off. It was awesome. It was the best.

“Me and Cesaro were just so happy. But when we took the jacket off, and we took the kilt off, and we had Liverpool jerseys on, dude, the reaction, the boos, it was just deafening. It was one of the best moments I have ever had in the ring. But the thing is, they didn’t see it because we had the jackets zipped up and the kilt,” Sheamus said. “There’s a clip out there somewhere.

“So we just walked out, and we’re obviously the bad guys. The thing is, we won the titles after doing that. They didn’t know until we got on the top rope and then took our jackets off. That’s when we revealed the jerseys. It was a slow reveal, and they just went ape s**t,” Sheamus said.
