Former Australia skipper Aaron Finch has raised serious concerns over Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) poor performance in the ongoing IPL 2026. Finch said KKR’s tactics and overall approach are not convincing, as they are yet to win a match this season.
“Certainly wasn’t pretty. A lot of question marks about KKR, particularly in that run chase. Some of their tactics were very questionable,” Finch said on ESPNcricinfo’s TimeOut show after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated KKR by 32 runs on April 14.
He further added that Sunil Narine’s promotion showed the team’s intent, but their other decisions did not help them. “We praised the decision for Sunil Narine to go to the top of the order,” Finch said. “It didn’t come off today [24 in 17 balls], but it was something different. At least they tried it.”
He also felt the partnership between captain Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi lacked acceleration. “We talked about Rahane and Raghuvanshi batting together, about how that can be such a stalling [factor]…They don’t take the bowling on,” Finch said.
The 39-year-old also questioned the use of Cameron Green in the middle order, saying, “To Cameron Green batting at No. 6, that’s an unusual position for him. I don’t think he’s done that a huge amount in T20 cricket.”
Finch also suggested that KKR should rethink their combination and consider giving Tim Seifert an opportunity. “You’ve got Seifert sitting in the wings, he’s a specialist opener…You’ve got a guy there who brings a good skill set and really good form in Seifert, coming off a good [T20] World Cup,” Finch explained.
Kolkata will next face Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 17 in Ahmedabad.
