Inside Australia’s boutique and handmade bicycle show with Baum’s latest 32″ gravel build, a new Bastion and more.

Dave Rome

The mid-year show season is upon us and one of my personal favourites, Spoken, has returned to Sydney for the second time.

Spoken has morphed over the years, first being all about the handmade scene (when it was the Handmade Bicycle Show Australia, held in Melbourne), and has now become more of a cycling enthusiast and boutique cycling show, most comparable to the UK’s Rouleur Live. Things are still centred around the boutique and handmade scene, but there are plenty more mainstream options on show, too.

I’ve covered the show every year since its inception, and it sure has grown in the number of brands present. Here’s a curated look at some of the standout bikes plus what the show had to offer. Part two will follow later this week.

Baum Cycles

The DBM 32er.

One of the benchmark builders in the world of custom titanium bikes, Baum Cycles is often credited for paving the international pathway for the thriving Australian scene today.

Did we do a good job with this story?
