Sports Field Safety and Stewardship Workshop for School Leaders

Join the Cornell Turfgrass Program for a hands-on field day designed for school leaders and facility managers responsible for the safety and performance of sports fields. Participants will walk Cornell’s natural and synthetic fields while engaging in an open discussion with the Cornell Turfgrass Team.

When: June 3, 2026. 9-11am

Where: Berman Field, 411 Tower Rd, Ithaca, NY 14853. Cornell University Campus

A free interactive field day for school leaders and facility managers focused on sports field safety, maintenance standards, and informed field management decisions

This interactive session will explore how sports fields are managed at Cornell while also discussing realistic maintenance standards for K–12 school facilities. The event will include demonstrations of field safety testing equipment and open discussion about the key decisions that influence field safety, performance, and long-term durability

Participants are encouraged to ask questions throughout the session, making this a collaborative learning opportunity focused on practical solutions for managing safe, high-quality sports fields in school and community settings.

Participants will learn about:

  • Key considerations when evaluating natural vs. synthetic turf

  • Minimum maintenance standards for natural grass fields

  • The importance of soil properties in field performance and durability

Parking: Short term parking using the ParkMobile app will be available near Berman field at the Peterson Lot on Tower Rd. Parking passes are being considered and will be further communicated.
