This is a review we have looked forward to, the Tru Pro Pure Rush Razor, an 8-sided star-shaped profile blue string offered in three different gauges.
Introduction
If you’ve followed our string reviews for a while, you’ll know that we’ve had a soft spot for the original Tru Pro Pure Rush, which we mention on our page for Recommended Strings. It’s one of those co-polys that quietly overdelivers, offering a rare mix of playability, comfort, and control. It manages to feel accessible without sacrificing performance, which is not always easy in this category.
So when we heard about the upcoming PURE RUSH R8ZOR, our interest was immediately piqued. This looks like a more aggressive evolution of the Pure Rush concept, aimed at players who want to add extra spin and precision to their game without losing feel.

Specifications
PURE RUSH R8ZOR is built around a sharp 8-sided, star-shaped profile designed to increase ball bite and spin potential. This places it firmly in the modern shaped co-poly category, but Tru Pro is clearly aiming for a more complete package than just raw spin. The string is marketed as offering a blend of explosive spin, directional control, and a depth-oriented response, while maintaining comfort and tension stability.
That combination is what makes this release particularly interesting. Many shaped co-polys deliver excellent spin, but often at the expense of feel or arm-friendliness. If R8ZOR can strike a better balance, it could stand out in a very competitive segment.
The original Pure Rush is known for its easy access to power, slightly elastic response, and strong playability over time. R8ZOR appears to build on that foundation, adding more structure and bite to the response. The key question going into testing is whether it can enhance spin and control without losing the signature Pure Rush feel that made the original so appealing.

Who is it for?
Tru Pro has positioned R8ZOR clearly toward performance-oriented players. The thicker gauges, 16 and 17, are recommended for advanced competitors, including high-level juniors, college players, and those competing at national or international level. The thinner 17 and 18 gauge options open the door for intermediate to advanced players who still want access to spin and control, but with a slightly more forgiving response. As always, you need to use the tension that suits your needs and game. We usually recommend to goes as low as you feel comfortable doing to open up more comfort, depth and pocketing.
Based on the specifications and our experience with the Pure Rush line, expectations are fairly clear. The 8-edge profile should provide strong grip on the ball, helping players generate heavier topspin from the baseline, more effective kick serves, and better access to angles. At the same time, the emphasis on directional and depth control suggests a predictable response that should inspire confidence when flattening out shots or playing aggressively inside the court.
Feel and comfort will be key areas to evaluate. Tru Pro highlights good ball pocketing and a responsive yet arm-friendly feel, which, if delivered, could separate R8ZOR from many of the stiffer shaped polys on the market. Tension stability is another important factor, especially for competitive players who rely on consistent performance over multiple sessions.
What to expect?
We’ve really enjoyed the original Pure Rush, so expectations are high for this release. If R8ZOR can deliver on its promise of spin, control, comfort, and tension stability, it could become a go-to option for competitive players seeking a well-rounded shaped poly.
We’re looking forward to getting this string into a few different racquets and testing it across tensions and conditions. A full review will follow once we’ve had proper time on court.
