Exciting Subway Series baseball is happening at Citi Field between the Yankees and the Mets, as both teams are vying for naming rights in the series. Cam Schlittler was in control all night, striking out nine in leading the Yankees to a 5-2 win.
His Topps Now card highlighted his night:
One of the biggest rivalries in baseball saw one of the game’s best young pitchers do what he does best – shut down an opponent’s offense. New York Yankees starter Cam Schlittler allowed two hits over six and 2/3 innings, striking out nine New York Mets batters in a 5-2 win. “I think you’re going to be a little extra locked in for situations like this,” Schlittler said.
On the other side, Juan Soto, who had one-year in pinstripes, tried to get something started for the Mets with a home run in the seventh inning, a 393-foot shot.
Soto also made history and his Topps Now card tells it like this:
New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto joined some truly elite company against the New York Yankees. The 27-year-old launched a 393-foot shot in the seventh inning of the Subway Series matchup for his 250th career homer. Soto becomes one of 16 players in MLB history to reach the mark before turning 28, and one of only seven to log 95 career steals as well.
So there it is, the first of the three game series making headlines, plus New York is dealing with a railroad strike, but nothing stops baseball, especially the Subway Series. How appropriate.
Until then, see you at the park.
