Super Bowl-winning Wide Receiver Locked Up For 2nd DUI Offense

Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Andre Rison was always a controversial and polarizing player. However, at the time that he played, he was also among the best and most talented pass catchers in the game.

Unfortunately, the 1996 addition who helped put the Packers over the top and win Super Bowl XXXI is spending this weekend in jail. This is the result of a previous sentencing for his second offensive of driving under the influence.

Former Green Bay Packers Andre Rison is spending the weekend in jail

Packers tight end Keith Jackson (88) celebrates a touchdown with receiver Andre Rison during a victory over the Vikings on Dec. 22, 1996, at Lambeau Field.

According to NBC Sports, “Rison pleaded guilty this week after an August 2025 arrest. He was sentenced to five total days and 18 months probation.”

TMZ also reported that, “Records show Rison posted a $5,000 bond during the case, but he still ended up with a 5-day jail sentence and 18 months probation following a hearing this week. He also owes more than $2,300 in fines and fees related to the case. An additional charge of open intoxication in a motor vehicle was dismissed.”

A first round pick in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, Rison spent 12 years in the NFL and has career totals of 10,205 receiving yards and 84 career touchdowns. He made five Pro Bowls during his career, and he was among the top-20 wide receivers in career yards at the time of his retirement. Now he is 54th.

A mid-season addition by the Packers, Rison had 13 reception for 135 yards and a touchdown in five regular season games for Green Bay. However, he is best known for catching Brett Favre’s first touchdown pass in Super Bowl XXXI, which snapped the franchise’s decades-long championship drought.

Rison still makes appearances at Packers fan events in Wisconsin during the season, and likely will continue to do so since this jail stint is just a slap on the wrist.
