Tatum Paxley Beats Blake Monroe In Casket Match To Retain Women’s North American Title During 4/21 NXT

The April 21 episode of NXT was a big night as the brand brought the second night of their Revenge special. There were several titles on the line, but none of them had such a dangerous gimmick.

Tatum Paxley and Blake Monroe have been going at it for a bit now, with Paxley coming out as Women’s North American Champion. Blake wanted another shot at the title, but she didn’t bet on a casket match.

This match had a lot of hype behind it. There were also rumblings and rumors that this would serve as Blake Monroe’s final match on the NXT brand before her main roster call-up. This match received a big-fight feel, thanks to Mike Rome’s ring introductions as well.

As one would expect, this match existed outside the ring for a majority of it. At one point, Tatum Paxley pulled out a dollhouse, and then she took a bump through it thanks to a shotgun dropkick from Blake Monroe.

They teased some casket spots, with the referee opening the lid at one point, but both stars were able to avoid the end that time. The match stretched through a commercial break at the top of the second hour while they teased the ending a few times.

At one point, both women fell in the casket and the lid shut, but the match kept going. Then Blake and Tatum had a moment in the casket that ended with a slap to the face as they fought on the apron. Tatum nailed a Spanish Fly to the floor from the casket, and that move probably took the breath out of both of them.

They kept going, and then Blake nailed a DDT and put Tatum in the casket, but Tatum got Blake’s title between the lid, so it didn’t close. Then Blake proceeded to whip Paxley with that title belt. Suddenly, Blake picked up a pillow from the casket and opened it to pour diamonds all over the mat. Tatum reversed out of it, hit a Cemetery Drive on the diamonds, and then she kicked Monroe in the casket, closed the door shut, and Tatum Paxley retained the NXT Women’s North American Title.
