RAMROD is not dead, but it’s not happening in 2026. So the Redmond Cycling Club is putting their time into launching a new round-trip ride from Enumclaw to Mowich Lake on the northwest side of Mount Rainier, a destination that has been very difficult to access since the Fairfax Bridge closed in April, 2025.
The Gravel Enumclaw To Mowich in A Day (“GETMAD”) ride is more than 80 miles and includes 6,300 feet of climbing. But perhaps more interesting, it follows a route through private property that is not typically open to the public. This ride could be a very rare opportunity to experience the mountain on these routes. This also means that unlike RAMROD, which uses roads, GETMAD will require mixed terrain cycling with some smooth roads, paved trails and many sections of rugged off-road.
The ride is July 23, and registration is now open on a first come, first served basis. Cost is $80.
Though the mileage and climbing counts aren’t as high as RAMROD, a storied endurance event, the complication of gravel will still make GETMAD an advanced ride. Don’t sign up on a whim, this is the kind of thing you need to prepare and train for. Riders should also be prepared to deal with their own bike repairs if needed.
GETMAD is one of the most interesting new produced rides in the region. It promises to take people where they cannot go on their own while also partnering with a local community that lost a huge part of its economy when the bridge closed.
“Access to the incredible Mowich Lake was effectively cut off following the unfortunate closure of the Fairfax Bridge,” RCC President Rick Duong wrote in the event announcement. “That closure also impacted the surrounding local communities. With the support of local leaders, private landowners, community members, towns, Mount Rainier National Park and especially the mayor of Wilkeson, Jayme Peloli, we are bringing this event together to provide cyclists with exclusive access to one of the region’s most stunning destinations.”
