Teary eyed Aiden Markram on South Africa losing WT20C Finals

29 June 2024 might be marked as a disappointing day for the South African team, but the men in blue have done it. After consecutive victories in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Team India has won the final match for the tournament, defeating South Africa with a close margin of 7 runs. South Africa captain Aiden Markram is teary eyed after losing the WT20C finals.

India vs South Africa match was held in the Kensington Oval, Barbados. The team won the toss and opted to bat first in the dry pitch of Barbados. The team started off on a rough side however, they ended up scoring 176/7 in 20 overs. The team restricted South Africa to 169/8.

Here’s What Aiden Markram said after the match

While team India was busy dealing with all their emotions and celebrating after the big win, South Africa captain Aiden Markram came out and spoken up in the post match segment.

Markram praised his team’s bowlers and the fielders for doing their best as they restricted India to an achievable target score. The South African batsmen did everything right, but it just wasn’t the day for their team.

“We bowled well, there wasn’t a lot to work with and restrict them to a chaseable total. We batted well, came down to the wire in a great game of cricket but not quite there for us today.” Aiden Markram said.

“We’ve seen a lot of our games, it isn’t over till the last ball is bowled. We never got comfortable and there was always scoreboard pressure. Having said that, this was a really good game which proves that we were worthy finalists. Hopefully this sets us up in a really good way, we pride ourselves on competing and hopefully we can put our skill to good use.” He added.

Speaking about the team’s feelings after the loss, Markram admitted that it was tough for him to come to terms with the close call.

“Gutted for the time being, it will take some time to have a good reflection on this. Hurts quite a bit, but full credit to the bowlers and everyone else in this team.” He said.

The Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen show

South Africa won their first ever semi finals match in an ICC World Cup in their match against Afghanistan. The team was full of confidence coming into today’s game, and that showed. While bowling, the South African bowlers stunned the audience as they took the wickets of important Indian batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant. Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje took 2 wickets each.

In South Africa’s batting innings, the team started off well, despite a hitch when they lost their first wicket at 7 runs. Around the 12th over, Heinrich Klaasen and Quinton de Kock’s partnership was yielding boundaries like no other. While Quinton scored 39 balls, Heinrich surpassed the 50 run mark later in the game.

Both players played big roles in South Africa’s total score, as they brought in the confidence for their team. South Africa was far ahead of India’s trajectory when compared for a long time. However, as the Indian bowlers started taking the big wickets, it got harder for South Africa to win.

The match was undoubtedly a thriller, keeping the audience at the edge of their seats as there was a chance for South Africa to win until the last 3 balls. India’s victory, has rightfully gutted South Africa.
