THE DAY IN PHOTOS: GB AGAINST USA

Great Britain pushed USA – the number one-ranked side in the world – for two periods on Sunday before falling to a 5-1 defeat in game two at the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Switerland.

After USA took the lead in the first period through Paul Cotter, Nathanel Halbert equalised for GB in the second session.

Isaac Howard made it 2-1 to USA before the second intermission and it was two goals in 15 seconds that proved the crucial turning point in the game.

Mathieu Olivier and Declan Carlile’s were on target in quick succession, before Howard scored his second of the afternoon late in the game.
