Charles Wright (The Godfather) explains why he thinks a character like Danhausen is popular with young WWE fans now, when Papa Shango was feared back in the 1990s:
“Social media, people, video games, movies. Kids back in the day when I was Papa Shango, now they’re 40 years old, they were 8 years old then or 10 years old, there wasn’t PlayStations or games of war and movies. So, I was the real boogeyman. People weren’t seeing that type of stuff on TV…
“Even when I do these conventions and I sign as Papa Shango and I dress up as Papa Shango, the parents, I go to shake their hands and they’re shaking, and the kids are laughing, they’re not scared at all because of what they see today. But that’s the difference, social media and everything that’s going on.”
