Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal hasn’t pitched from a Major League mound since April 29, when he went seven innings and allowed two runs in a 4-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves.
But that’s expected to change this Saturday, with the Tigers announcing the two-time defending Cy Young-winner’s return to the rotation after missing over a month due to “loose bodies,” in his elbow.
Fans will be encouraged by how sharp he was in his lone rehab start with High-A West Michigan, where struck out six without a walk and just two hits in five scoreless innings.
After back-to-back playoff appearances, the Tigers are just 29-40 and eight games behind the first-place Chicago White Sox in the American League Central. With Skubal set to make big bucks on the free agent market this offseason and the Tigers not looking like they’ll be in the playoff picture this year, Skubal will be a name to monitor ahead of the August 3 trade deadline.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Skubal has been one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball since 2024, when he struck out an MLB-high 228 batters before following it up with another 241 in 2025. With that being said, can you name every pitcher to lead all Major League Baseball in strikeouts in the Wild Card Era (since 1995)?
Good luck!
